Wild neptune grass tea mat.
Woven on the Altea Coast of Eastern Spain where the beaches are covered with posidonia oceanica, also know as neptune grass. This is the lungs of the Mediterranean sea, an underwater forest. The plant gives life to the sea, is it oxygen rich & provides food & shelter to marine life. When the plant washes up over the beaches in this area it is a sign of a healthy ecosystem.
Connecting this weaving to the land in which it was created. Incorporating a part of the underwater world, weaving with the grasses which are all around me on these beaches..
Made using raw flax, organic nettle & wild neptune grass and root (harvested by me in the place this piece was created)
7 inches x 7 inches aprox (excluding tassels)
